Studs, sequins and zippers.

Studs and sequins have been all over the world this year. Almost everything you can find finished with them: shoes, shirts, bags, vests and so on. A visible zipper has been around for a longer time now. It's at the back of a shirt, dress, or even a legging to swagger the outfit. I like zippers, it's easy to posh them and they are stylish themselves.
I've created an outfit with a lot of fashion highlights of this year - still not overboard.

I like the white vest, because it adds class to the outfit. Wear the earring with your hair pinned up sideways so it's visible to others. Don't wear a necklace, it's too much. You may add bangles: Gold or rose gold, 1-2 big and 2-3 bracelet types. A ring or a watch is an option. Try to keep it gold or rose gold; silver would mismatch.

Fragrance with SWAG

I think everyone would agree with me that a good smell is part of your outfit. Picture a very handsome someone (male/female) wearing a formal outfit, like a suit, and he/she smells like dried spit because he/she didn't take a shower this morning. That's disgusting.
Thousands of years ago about 2000 BC perfume was initially used as a fragrance in Egypt. It was then refined by the Romans and Arabs, and slowly grew into a daily must. Characteristic for perfume are fragrance oils which gives them their scents. The fragrance oils are mostly abstracted from certain flower leaves, tree leaves or fruits.
Nowadays fragrances are also diluted into an Eau de toilette. Which is basically Eau the parfum, but diluted in water. It has a less stronger scent and vaporizes faster than Eau de parfum.

Since perfume is a part of today's fashion, why not make the appearance of perfume fashionable?

When I go shopping for a perfume, the bottle is the first thing that attracts my attention.
Cute bottle: not only makes the smell pleasant but also adds swag to your fragrance collection and thus your closet. There are a couple of designers who think the design of a fragrance isn't all about the smell, but also about the bottle.

Marc Jacobs, recently brought out his new scent named: "Marc by Marc Jacobs Dot"
This bottle adorable! It represents a lady bug, the beauty Queen der insects. If this bottle was a bag, I would wear it with a black dress, but since it is not, I would give it a special spot on my vanity mirror table desk. The smell: fresh/fruit/flower

For example Juicy Couture. The designers from this label are masters in producing bling products. From jewelry to scarves. So we couldn't expect different for their perfume. An example is "Viva la Juicy- La Fleur" which is my favorite smell made by Juicy Couture. The small tube standing beside the bottle is a roller with 2 smells, "Viva la Juicy - La Fleur" and "Viva la Juicy". Viva la Juicy  is an eau de parfum. The smell: summer/flower/day. Viva la la Juicy - La Fleur is an eau de toilet. The smell: light/fresh/day

Another perfume I love, is from La Prairie "Midnight Rain". The fragrance is a bit on the expensive side, $135 for 1.7 oz. But everything from La Prairie is expensive. Have you ever seen the price of their cosmetics. The intelligent designers of La Prairie, thought adding an outstanding look to their fragrance bottle would make the perfume even more outstanding. I personally find this bottle amazing. It could really be a souvenir when the fragrance is done. Put it on the table or use it to hold paper towels in place. The fragrance is eau de perfume. The smell: night/rich/sexy

Then you have the Guerlain "Shalimar" eau de parfum and eau de toilette refillable spray. The Guerlain "Shalimar" fragrance has been created by Jacques Guerlain in 1921 and in the market since 1925. Shalimar is one of the most successively sold fragrances in time. And despite the year this scent has been published, it is sells good. The story behind this scent makes this fragrance even more desirable. Just recently Guerlain has made a refillable bottle, which you can fill with the amazing Shalimar fragrance. The bottle is much more stylish than the original Shalimar and is bag proof, meaning the cap can't get off the bottle during bag movement. What I like about the bottle is that it is completely gold plated - just like the La Prairie perfume, it doesn't have to much bling, but it is definitely an eye catcher. The smell: daily/sexy/comfortable.

Last but not least is Lolita Lempicka 'Si Lolita'. The bottle is build of 4 hearts all pointing towards the middle, and a scarf around it's neck. Without the scarf the bottle would be plain, but the scarf gives it the swag it needs. This parfume is an eau de parfum. The smell: spicy/strong/overwelming

If you're a parfume lover, try to shop for a fragrance of which you love the scent and has a nice bottle. Put the bottle in a place, you can see it everyday and enjoy..

The dress

There is one certain type of dress that fits about everyone.
Petit? No problem! Fuller figure? No problem!
And it's very "this season" too. They have it in different styles: stripes, with buttons, high-low cutout, sleeveless, etc. It's the dress with an elastic string on your middle. They are available in different length and you can find them at about every store, both cheap and really expensive. Wear this dress and feel convident about yourself!

Need tips how to create this dress with clothes you want to recycle? Read my next blog, which will be online soon!

Happy friday!

The key to dressing up nicely is being happy and feeling good about yourself en your life. Since it's friday, and everyone is atleast a little bit happier; I will give you some happy friday samples of what to wear this warm yet rainy weekend.

Hunter rain boots!
The British flag adds a little swag to the boots. Wear this with hot pants or shorts and a t-shirt, and you will look stunning and still be prepared for the rainy weekend! Don't forget your umbrella!

Don't have the money for the real hunter boots, try the less expensive rainboots by Kamik (sold at for example Zappos or in store at Sears).

The shirt

I will try to teach you how to style this shirt.
I chose it, because it's airy, the wind blows through it, it's simply perfect for the summer.

You probably see these kind of t-shirts all over forever21, h&m, river island, topshop etc.  And I can hear most of you think "I don't have that flat belly!! Don't show me how flat hers is and mines not". If you have a little belly you wouldn't like to share with everyone; here's how you can still rock this shirt.
Try on a strap basic black dress. This t-shirt on top of the black dress will cover up your belly.
Try on a high legging. I don't know if you have ever noticed, but high leggings flatten your belly and they look amazing under these shirts.
You could also: try a set of both a black basic strap top with a (low/normal) legging or a pair of jeans shorts or these shorts (see below). If you're not wearing high leggings, it's important to wear a shirt underneath. Do not wear a shirt with sleeves (neither long or short)!

If you do have a flat belly, just simply rock this shirt with a pair of jeans shorts or maybe these shorts.

The color

This summer is all about stripes, spots and any print on a shirt or dress. Especially white with print I love. Combine a white printed skirt/short with a bright colored shirt. For example, you can easily wear the shorts (see above) with a bright green lace shirt.

The shoes

Try flip flops or just flat sandals. Except if you're going for the legging as a bottom, pumps or high sandals would fit perfect.

I'll get back at ya with some example pictures.
Have a hot saturday.

Introduction

There are a lot sites, and people who can give you advice what to wear. It's easy. Everyone who thinks they have a taste of fashion blogs or calls himself a stylist or designer.
But; What is fashion?
Fashion is not the current trend, fashion is not what people want you to wear, fashion is not the label.. Fashion is a combination of style, chicness and feeling very comfortable and affordable in what you're wearing. Very often I watch TV programs in which people undergo a make-over; transformed into something new; and mostly into something they are not. After 1 year; 90% of the people look as they looked before the make-over. Meaning the make-over is not only about making someone look better, also about making them think different about fashion and teaching them how to choose what is best for them. If you don't know how to dress and follow the trends (in your own way), you won't be able to keep track, start feeling lost and before you know you're back to basic. It's like a diet...
And of course there is comfort, which is very important in a person's choice of style. When I'm not comfortable wearing something, I don't wear it and honestly I think this is a good habit.

I just moved to the USA and I noticed a lot of people here dress casual and really don't know how to dress up. The first night I went out for a drink I had men asking me if I thought they were dressed up good enough to impress a certain girl. It breaks my heart to see people struggle with fashion, cause honestly fashion is the easiest part of looking good and feeling great about yourself.

I have a story to tell you, it's not a secret. I bet you have a story and if you're comfortable sharing it, please do so!!

I started this blog to help people enlarge their creativity in fashion. Fashion should be a part of you. I have loads of friends who either don't have the money or don't feel comfortable wearing certain things. They end up wearing T-shirts and jeans, to almost everywhere...

So here are some tips:
  • Don't follow trends without thinking. When you don't feel comfortable wearing something, don't wear it. It will make you look even more flat.
  • If you think fashion is to expensive, you are probably looking in the wrong store or on the wrong website.
  • T-shirt and jeans can be fashionable if you wear it right. You can always style t-shirt and jeans by customizing it with an eye-catcher. Note: This doesn't have to be something you don't feel comfortable in. Whatever makes you happy, as long as it shows off!
  • Don't wear shoes you can't walk in, you will walk unstable.
  •  Accessories are a good way to style you. Accessories can make you look fabulous, chic and very modern!
  • Don't wear too much make-up, you will look like a clown. People in magazines wear a lot of make-up because the lighting used during photography adds to their appearance.
  • You don't have to throw away old clothes, you can always recycle them!

And a small introduction about myself and why I started this blog. I'm Kady, I'm a full-time student in pharmacy and I just simply love fashion. I recently moved to Chicago, but before I moved here I have been living in the Netherlands for 6 years. I was born and raised in Suriname (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Suriname) and my parents, little brother and most of the family still live back there.
When I just arrived in Chicago, one of the first thing I noticed is that a lot of people around me dressup casual. I walked around at Belmont avenue and 50% of the people were wearing jogging shoes. With all respect - I love America, I love the people - but those shoes drive me nuts. I have them too and I wear them 3 times a week, to the gym! Seriously people they are for running. They are not the only comfortable and affordable shoes one can buy. America has so many shops, wow this is like paradise to me. I don't get it.....
But, most of the American people I get to know complement me on the way I dress and combine things. Whenever I would advice them to wear what I wear, most would say they are not comfortable in it. Until I take them shopping.
I don't have the intention to become a stylist, unless someone offers me a lot of money :p.. But I just want to help. I will try to blog bi-dayly and try to post as much pictures as possible. If you have a question, please don't hesitate.
I hope my story will help you get confident in clothes...
